Crack in the Teacup Redux

The picture above is one of a remarkable series at Life.com, originally appearing in the magazine's pages October, 1944. In the French village of Grenoble, days after the liberation of France, 6 Nazi collaborators were executed, by a rather rag-tag troop of resistance-fighters. Aged from 19 to 26, they had each worked for the Vichy police.

If you have the stomach, have a look at these images. Cold-blooded and premeditated, murder is murder, no matter who squeezes the trigger.

If you don't believe that could be you or someone you love in that photograph, either you haven't lived enough, or you've learned a lot of nothing along the way. The fucking fissure in the ointment is an equal opportunity employer, ubiquitous as the happy highway it leads to, just as certain.

"O look, look in the mirror,
O look in your distress:
Life remains a blessing
Although you cannot bless."

(Just keep telling myself that, I think...Mantra, for a long autumn night)
